Instructional Designer
Instructional Designer
Welcome to Cabarrus Virtual Academy!
I am the Instructional Designer for Cabarrus Virtual Academy. In this role, I assist teachers to build and facilitate our online courses and help students navigate through the courses. I help ensure that our courses are rigorous, are engaging to students, and that we give students the opportunity to grow through inquiry and think critically as they interact with their peers and instructor.
I also work in conjunction with our Instructional Technology Facilitator, Liz Crawford, and our Technician, Joseph Chestnut. We collaboratively assist students and staff with the technical side of online courses.
This is my 29th year in education, spending most of it in Cabarrus County first as an art teacher, then as an Instructional Technology Facilitator (ITF), and now as the Instructional Designer. In between my roles in Cabarrus County, I have also worked in Rowan County as an ITF, at Rowan Cabarrus Community college as an online teacher, at Winthrop University as the Director of the Instructional Technology Center for the College of Education, and in Clover School district as an Innovation Coach.
I earned my BFA in Fine Arts from Temple University with a concentration in education, and my MEd from UNC Charlotte in Instructional Systems Technology and Curriculum and Instruction. I am a National Board certified teacher and a life-long learner.
My love for learning translates into my philosophy for online learning. I believe that students learn through relevant and authentic inquiry and practice. As students interact with their peers and the instructor, they build context knowledge and a variety of perspectives that assist them in their learning.
