Welcome to Cabarrus Virtual Academy. I am the Online Learning Coordinator and Instructional Designer at CVA. As the Online Learning Coordinator (OLC) I manage our courses and enrollment across Cabarrus County; supporting both our online students and teachers.
I was born and grew up in Manitoba Canada and moved to North Carolina for college. I graduated from Pfeiffer University with a BA in history and philosophy and earned my MEd from UNC Charlotte in Learning, Design & Technology concentrating on Online Learning and Teaching. I completed my doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction at University of South Carolina, researching how online learning develops students’ critical thinking. As a social studies teacher, I started teaching blended and hybrid courses for ten years ago, and then moved into online learning.
My online learning and teaching philosophy is for students to learn through authentic inquiry and interacting with disciplinary content, their peers and the instructor and to develop community and belonging in by valuing student’s unique contexts and perspectives and making learning relevant and authentic.
This philosophy matches our instructional priorities here at Cabarrus Virtual –
Please e-mail me if you have questions about Cabarrus Virtual and online learning opportunities in cabarrus county, or submit our interest form to attend Cabarrus Virtual.
