The Hive - Parent and Student Newsletter - Septebmer 7, 2025
Dear Families,

Cabarrus County Schools is updating our grading practices.  All assignments will become equally weighted within the grading categories.  There are two types of categories- formal (60% of grade) and informal (40% of grade).  CVA is in the process of making these changes and I would like to share our transition plan.
Courses being built in 2025-26 (8th grade math, science and social studies, Math II, Math III, Math IV, AP Pre-calculus, and Computer Science) are currently converting all grades to be out of 100 points.  You may see a change in your student's grade due to this conversion.  All other courses will have formal assessments converted to 100 points this semester and in the spring, all informal assignments will be out of 100 points.  You may wonder why there is a delay in converting the informal assessments for these courses.  These are all pre-built courses with daily assignments so there are approximately 80 informal assignments for each the 15 classes.  As you can imagine, this will take some time so we need the fall for the conversion.

Hopefully you are all able to access Infinite Campus and can review your student's grades and progress.  See last week's newsletter if you missed the directions.

I am happy to talk with you further about the grading changes, should you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Chrissy Rotan

Benchmark -Math III and English II
Students enrolled in Math III and English II this fall will need to take the benchmark at CVA.  Mark your calendars now for the September 24 assessment. Drop off will begin at 8:20 am. Students will need approximately 2 hours to test. More information will be sent to your student.

Middle School In-Person Thursday

This week middle schoolers made oobleck and discussed how it has properties of liquids and solids.  In math, students competed to see how could make the tallest towers using their knowledge of transformations.

We encourage all students to join us in-person on Thursdays.
