The Hive - Parent and Student Newsletter - October 26, 2025
Dear Families,

As students grow, one of the most valuable skills they can develop is self-advocacy—the ability to speak up for themselves, ask for help, and seek clarification when they need it. Middle and high school are the perfect years to practice this skill. This builds confidence, responsibility, and strong problem-solving skills in students.  Students who advocate for themselves:
  • Understand their academic progress more clearly
  • Gain confidence in communicating with adults
  • Learn how to handle challenges respectfully and calmly
  • Are better prepared for college, work, and life beyond school
At CVA we encourage all our students to be self-advocates.  Your partnership at home helps reinforce this adult skill.  CVA counselors are also happy to coach your student through this process when needed.

Enjoy the fall weather!

CVA and the PTSO provide breakfast and water for students attending in-person sessions on Thursdays or during testing.  We are running low on snacks and have no water bottles.  Please send in a donation with your student on Thursday.

The Math III and English II benchmarks will be held on November 12.  Students in both courses should plan to bring a lunch and snack to eat between tests.

Middle School Spelling Bee- December 4 - All middle schoolers must attend

CPR is a graduation requirement in NC.  Juniors and seniors who have not met the requirement should plan to attend CPR on Tuesday at 8:45 at West Cabarrus High School.  Students will be finished by 9:30 am.  Check your email as Ms. Poulos reached out to all students involved.

CCP Course Fees & E-Textbooks
We’ve created a quick reference sheet with estimated e-textbook and course fees for many CCP classes to help students plan ahead. (see attached form)
  • Some classes now use Open Educational Resources (OER) — meaning no textbook costs!
  • Fees may vary each semester.
  • Check the latest info anytime at the Rowan-Cabarrus Online Bookstore.
  • Textbooks can be reimbursed up to $50.   The due date for fall reimbursements is 11/25/25. Here is the LINK to request a reimbursement.  Students will need the following for submission through the request form-
    • A receipt or statement from the school showing the purchase was an e-textbook with the class name on it, the amount of the purchase, and must be paid in full.
    • Information for the book – Title and ISBN number. This can be found on the course syllabus.
  • There is no reimbursement for fees.
Reminders:
  • Students taking 9+ credit hours pay a $50 Student Activity Fee.
  • There’s a small graduation fee for those participating in the ceremony.
Plan ahead and save — every little bit helps!
