The Hive - Parent and Student Newsletter - January 4, 2026

Dear Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope you all enjoyed the holiday break and are ready to begin second semester.  We are excited to be welcoming many new families to CVA for the spring.  Each week I will be sending this newsletter which contains important information for students and parents. This newsletter is the primary source of information for the school.

Classes begin tomorrow and I encourage you all to create and adhere to your daily routine.  Students who work daily are the most successful at CVA.

If your student is enrolled in a fall standard start NCVPS course, the course will end on January 9th. Grades for these courses will be posted in mid- January.

Top 10 Things to Know for a Successful Second Semester
  1. Semester Start Dates
CVA and most NCVPS courses begin on January 5. Please note the following exceptions, which begin on January 20, 2026:
American Sign Language, Chinese, German, and Japanese. Students should log into Infinite Campus to see their courses.  Students access CVA courses through Canvas on their  Chromebook home screen and NCVPS Canvas through the My.ncedcloud.org site.  There are separate Canvas platforms for CVA and NCVPS.

  2. Daily Attendance Is Required
Students must sign in daily using the attendance form linked in the Homeroom Canvas course.

  3. Join StudentSquare Immediately.  Sign up to receive information from your school and teachers. On your device, open a web browser and visit: ssqr.at/rotan058. Follow instructions to sign up for StudentSquare.

  4. Activate ParentSquare Access
Parents/guardians should activate their ParentSquare account using this link:
    portalaccess.ncsis.gov

  5. Pay the Student Supply/Technology Fee
Please ensure the $30 student supply/technology fee is paid if you have not already done so.

  6. Establish a Daily Schedule
Students should have a consistent daily schedule that includes dedicated time for coursework and a designated, distraction-free place to study.

  7. Stay On Track With Coursework
Students who fall behind or are not passing courses may be required to attend mandatory in-person support on Thursdays.

  8. Use Quick Start Guides and CVA Support
Quick Start Guides are available for assistance. See Useful links.  CVA staff is here to help—please call if your student cannot access courses or is experiencing Chromebook issues.

  9. Parent Access to Courses
Parents may observe all courses in Canvas. Use this video to learn how to become a Canvas observer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-5sWZODhY8
The same parent account can be paired with both CVA and NCVPS courses.

  10. Get Involved — Join the PTSO
We encourage families to join the PTSO
