Cabarrus County Schools Virtual AcademyThe Hive - Parent and Student Newsletter - August 16, 2026
Dear CVA Families,
Thank you for a great start to the school year! It was wonderful to see so many of our students on campus for orientation and to welcome everyone back to CVA.
If your family was unable to attend Parent Orientation, you can find the materials below. These resources are also available in the Useful Links section of our newsletter.

A Quick Traffic Update

Traffic around our school neighborhood was especially heavy this week. After dropping off your student, please continue behind Winkler School rather than exiting through the main traffic area. This route should help you avoid the congestion and get out of the neighborhood much more quickly.

Welcome to Our New Staff!

You may have noticed some new faces around CVA this year. We are excited to welcome the following new teachers to our team:
Reginald Aubry - Computer Science
Rachael Benson - Computer Science
Millie Chang - Social Studies
Alice Helms - English
Vilma Perdomo - Spanish
Susan Shuping - English
Melinda Helmintoller - Office Manager
We are very excited to see our staff grow!

Middle School Supplies
For students taking North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) middle school math courses, we suggest they have a binder, pencils, and a printer. Students will often have notes and other materials that are helpful to print and keep organized.
If you do not have a printer at home, we can print notes for students at school on our in-person Thursdays. Students must tell us what they need printed.
If your family needs a binder, we have a few available. Please tell us, and we will be happy to give you one.
Students should bring their binder with them on Thursdays.

High School Student Information Needed
Please fill out the form below. This will give Ms. Rubbino the information she needs to help your student. Many students filled out the form at orientation.

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS: Your journey to college, scholarships, and career planning starts with one important step: creating your College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) account. A CFNC account gives you access to helpful tools that can help you:
  • Explore colleges, careers, and majors
  • Find scholarships and financial aid opportunities
  • Build your College Plan
  • Track your progress toward graduation
  • See if you qualify for NC College Connect. This program may offer direct admission to certain North Carolina colleges and universities.
Students who are on track to graduate from a North Carolina public high school, have a 2.8 GPA or higher, and are taking a fourth-level math course may be able to join NC College Connect directly. Even if you do not meet the GPA requirement, students who are on track to graduate may still be able to join their local community college directly.
It is quick to create your CFNC account:
  1. Go to CFNC.org
  2. Click "Sign In" and choose "Create Account"
  3. Choose "I'm a Student"
  4. Enter your information using your school email address
  5. Create a username and password, then confirm your email
Need help? Your school counselor can help you get started.

On Monday in homeroom, students will be shown the required safe school videos.  This letter gives you more information on the requirement and allows you to preview the videos.  Reach out to Mrs. Rotan if you have further questions.
